WhatsApp has an extremely important function to keep access to your account more secure: the “Two-step verification”. If your account does not have the feature activated, anyone can reinstall WhatsApp and impersonate you, if they have your SIM card.

Two-step verification consists of setting up a 6-digit PIN number, which will have to be provided when WhatsApp is reinstalled on the same smartphone or a new one.

Activating 2-step verification

Open WhatsApp and access the menu with the three dots, above on the right, and tap on “Settings”. Now follow the step by step:

1. Tap “Account”.

2. Touch “Two-Step Verification”.

3. Tap “Enable”.

4. Enter a 6-digit PIN and proceed. On the next screen, confirm the PIN.

5. Now provide an email address in case you forget your PIN and need to reset it. Go ahead and confirm the email.

6. Tap “Done” to finish.

That’s it! Now, whenever you use WhatsApp with the same mobile number, it will ask for the PIN to activate the account.
